Hello!
My name is Amelia Gale and I am a third-year student at the University of Oregon. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a focus in Public Relations. I fell in love with PR because of the people I was able to surround myself with, but stuck with it because of the stories I was able to tell. One of the driving forces for wanting to write a blog about music stems from my home town of San Francisco. Growing up in the middle of the city allowed me to start attending concerts at a young age and introduced me to all different types of music. Although, I have only attended local festivals like Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and BottleRock, I have developed an interest in festivals because of my love for music.
Throughout my time in Eugene, I was fortunate enough to grow my professional career. About a year ago, I found an organization called A New Leash on Life whose mission centers around saving shelter animals from euthanasia. For the past few months, I have helped the organization with their Instagram content by taking photos and videos of each group of new animals as they arrive in the Pacific Northwest. I value my position as a social media coordinator, not only because of the work I do but also because of how much fun I have at each transport. There is nothing better than watching animals go into the hands of foster families.
Along with my professional work, for the past three years at the University of Oregon, I have been a member of the sexual violence prevention Leadership Board and deeply value the efforts made by the group. As a member of the board, I have been able to plan educational events for UO students and taught my Greek life organization about the importance of sexual violence prevention on our campus. I have also recently taken the position Vice President for the University’s Social Media Club. I hope to use that experience to continue networking and learn as much as possible about social media in a professional use.
